exam questions
1. The art criticism process; First, you have to simply look at the obvious. What’s the artists name, name of the piece, whether they used clay, pencil, pen, etc. Secondly, you should look at the principles of art and how they are organized throughout the piece (value, texture, color etc). Next, you need to explain the story of the piece. You have to interpret what the author wanted to portray and where they could’ve gotten their ideas from. The last step is to decide whether you think the artwork is successful or not. It’s all about your opinion on it, nobody else’s.
2. This is a painting I made and it is called "Beach House." For this piece, you can see that I used paint throughout the entire thing. I used shading to help make the picture more realistic, especially on the driveway area. I believe that the vibrant yellow color is what makes the painting more noticeable. I decided to paint my grandparents beach house because it is my second home and when I go there, I feel relaxed and at peace. I think that the painting was not as much of a success I had wanted it to be, I feel like I could have added more shading to the house itself, and clouds to the sky as well. This was my first ever painting and I think that it could've been better, but i'm overall okay with how it turned out.
What is art?
Art can be classified as many different things, but I would define it as an expression of your creative abilities and talents. Art is a way to express how you feel. There is a lot of meaning behind many artworks. Sometimes it takes just a glance at an artwork to understand what the artist is trying to convey, where as other times, it might take you quite a while to grasp the authors ideas.
Was illustration Friday helpful?
Yes, the illustration Friday's we did were very helpful. This is because they helped to keep my creativity flowing. Some of the words we had to work with helped me think of ideas for the projects we were working on at the time.
What are some reasons artists make art?
I think that though some people create art just to pass time, there are many others who are doing so for a purpose. I believe that artist's are trying to portray a certain message through their art. Also, I think that art is something that people go to when they are looking for a way to express their emotions. I know that most of the time when I make art, its because it helps me express the way I feel without putting it into words.

Watercolor
1. I used one point perspective.
2. I took this photo during spring, and it was of the tree that just bloomed in front of my house.
3. The most difficult part of this project was the shading because this is my first time doing watercolor and i wasn’t quite sure how to make it realistic enough.
4. The first warmup helped because it showed me how to control my brush when i’m painting. And the second one helped because it showed me how to do all three perspectives.

portrait warmups
1. The warmup that proved to help my portrait the most is the first one (face proportions). This is because i always struggled with the sizes of the features on the face, as well as the face outline itself.
2. What i found most surprising about the face proportions is that we tend to make some features on our face smaller/bigger than they really are. This warmup made me realize the ACTUAL proportions of the human face.

Portrait
1. I chose to do a portrait of myself.
2. I used graphite on this project.
3. First, i traced out the proportions of the face using the method in the warmups we did. Then, i traced out the shoulders and colored in the shirt. Next, i did the hair and lastly, i shaded the face.
4. I found the eyebrows successful. I did not find the shading successful though. If i could redo this project again, i would definitely take more consideration into the shading of the face and the whole realistic look in general.

multimedia project
I used 5 different mediums in this piece. First, i drew the lion in pencil because i wanted to know where it should go/how big i wanted it to be. Next, i painted the background blue because i thought it would look nice with the colors of the lion. Then, i colored it in with oil pastels because i thought it would look kind of like the texture of a real lion. Next, i outlined the entire lion in sharpie. My word was brave and as soon as i got it, i thought of a lion standing tall, that’s why i decided to do what i did.
Inspired Artist
The artist that i found that inspires me, goes by the name cat rabbit. She is a melbourne based artist and even has work in the melbourne girls grammar school. some other clients that she has worked with are: NGV, Frankie’s Magazine, and Soludos. She works with felt and is a textile artist and designer. Her work inspires me because i really like her style. She makes plush sculpture works of made up characters. I think that is so amazing because i for one, have always loved to create strange characters in my head. But, turns out i’m not the only one. She has incredible artwork, as shown in the pictures below, and i aspire to be as creative and imaginative as she is.

3. The exercise i learned the most from is the tree activity. This is because it showed me how to correctly make a tree and it showed me that i definitely need to practice more.
4. A few ways to make brown
• mix a complementary color with a primary color.
• combining red, yellow, and black
• mix blue and orange
